Event Description

Winter Park, FL:   Members of The Central Florida Watercolor Society, CFWS, have been invited to host a Plein Air painting event at the historic Winter Park Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens on March 25, 2018 from 1 P.M. until 4 P.M. The Polasek Museum is located at 633 Osceola Ave., Winter Park, FL.

With the 10th annual Winter Park Paint Out scheduled for April 22-28, this  March CFWS event is, by design, a warm up to this very popular and well attended event. With watercolor painters in the gardens capturing the beauty of the exquisitely designed landscape, patrons and visitors can enjoy watching members of this group painting in watercolor.

The Central Florida Watercolor Society, started in 1998, has a membership of 150 whose expertise ranges from beginner to professional. Their juried shows have graced the walls of many Central Florida galleries: City Arts Factory, The Terrace Gallery, The Maitland Art Center, and Leu Gardens, to name a few. “It is a great honor to be invited to host this Plein Air event”, former CFWS president and past Winter Park Paint Out participant, Cindy Sturla, said at a recent membership meeting. “The beautifully manicured gardens of the Polasek Museum, the former home and studio of Albin Polasek, and the grounds with amazing world class sculptures are a Plein Air artist’s dream!  We appreciate this opportunity to share our love of Plein Air and show patrons and visitors how painting in watercolor is different than painting in oils or acrylic.”

This event will also showcase the recently opened Capen-Showalter Home with its newly landscaped grounds. The Capen-Showalter Home was saved from destruction by the Albin Polasek Foundation when it quickly raised the money necessary to float the home across Lake Osceola on a barge in 2013, resulting in significant

national news coverage. Visiting the home and beautifully re-landscaped gardens will show that it was money well spent.

If you’re an art lover, a patron, or just curious to see what the buzz is about, stop by the Polasek Museum March 25 from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M. to see the watercolorists in action.

Admission to the Museum is: adults, $10; seniors (60+): $8; college students with ID: $8; students (K-12) $3, members and children 4 and under are free. On-site parking, space available, is free. Over-flow parking is available at the city library and at Dinky Dock; both are only one block distant.
