From the artist who brought you Rent This Phone comes the next installment in his pay phone musical series, Fiddler on the Phone. Sounds crazy, no?
Taking place entirely over a pay phone, this performance features Brian Feldman singing Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Joseph Stein’s Tony Award®-winning musical classic, Fiddler on the Roof, a capella, one song at a time, one phone call at a time.
16 phone calls are available beginning Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at...
“̶ ̶ ̶S̶u̶n̶r̶i̶s̶e̶,̶ Sunset” (6:28 PM EST)
Specific songs from the show may be requested, and will be fulfilled in the order received. Otherwise, all songs will be allocated randomly. Phone calls will range from approximately 1 to 8 minutes.
The use of any recording device, either audio or video, is strictly prohibited. In other words, no messages will be left, so be sure to pick up your phone regardless of the unfamiliar number! (Photography and sketching is encouraged.)
Originally scheduled to take place last Christmas Eve, after setting up the pay phone prior to sunset and putting in the first two quarters for the first call and song (“Tradition”), the phone didn’t work. No dial tone. No nothing. Brian tried two additional pay phones in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of D.C., before calling the project off.
Many who’d signed up were really looking forward to receiving their calls that night, and were genuinely disappointed when it didn’t happen. No one was more disappointed than Brian. This is a re-attempt. Since there were so many people on the wait list who remained hopeful that the original 16 wouldn’t pick up, he’s now attempting Fiddler on the Phone two nights in-a-row while the Broadway tour of Fiddler on the Roof is at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), sort of.
