Parts 1 & 2 (this is a 4 hour course covering both parts of our Introduction to Lighting Design series)
This four hour workshop will lay the foundations for the practice of lighting design. We’ll take the mystery out of basic lighting terminology, light sources, luminaires, photometric reports, and the methods used to design building lighting systems that address occupant needs. Interactive lectures will be interspersed with hands-on activities, allowing participants to explore concepts such as Illuminance and Color Temperature by experiencing these characteristics of light. Participants will develop a sound understanding of lighting fundamentals, a qualitative feel for lighting quantities, and an appreciation of how these concepts dovetail with the lighting design process.
Students are encouraged to sign-up for both Part 1 and Part 2 classes. You must complete Part 1 before you take Part 2. Both class are held on the same day one week apart.
Target audience: Anyone interested in learning about lighting design… artists, designers, art collectors, home owners, students, and more
Learning Objectives: Develop a sound understanding of lighting fundamentals, including photometric quantities and basic photometric concepts.
