Art-ivism Call to Artists at CityArts
Exhibition Dates: April 21st- May 14th, 2022
CityArts in collaboration with Alexis Kayla Creations presents the Art-ivism Exhibition. An opportunity to exhibit your artwork and raise awareness about issues that are important to you.
Art-ivism is the combination of art and activism and the use of creative mediums as a means for social change. Though the word was first coined in the 60’s and only really in use since the 90’s, the concept of art-ivism has been integral to the evolution of the role that art and artists play in society. It has empowered artists to use their talents for a greater purpose and elicit change within their community for decades.
“The art-ivist (artist + activist) uses their artistic talents to fight and struggle against injustice and oppression—by any medium necessary. The art-ivist merges commitment to freedom and justice with the pen, the lens, the brush, the voice, the body, and the imagination.” M. K. Asante
Subject matter: This exhibition will feature original 2D and 3D artworks exploring social justice topics of relevance and importance to the artist. Artists are encouraged to think of messages they wish to share and start conversation about in their community. Examples include (but are not limited to) concepts involving human rights, animal rights, environmental conservation, political commentary etc.
All mediums welcomed and encouraged.
