Art programs nominated by the Downtown Arts District received multiple honors from the Downtown Orlando Partnership (DOP) during its recent 26th Annual Golden Brick Awards. Out of the more than 50 awards presented, three gold and two silver bricks were awarded to Downtown Arts District related projects that have positively impacted the Downtown Orlando area.
This multi-win for the Downtown Arts District and its art programs is a humble reminder that the Orlando arts community is alive and strong throughout the Downtown area. Barbra Hartley, Executive Director of the Downtown Arts District said, “We are proud to have so many of our Downtown art experiences be recognized as effective initiatives.”
The unique art exhibitions, performances and monthly collaborative Downtown experiences that won at Wednesday’s event have created a central hub for residents and visitors to explore the city in a constructive way. “The art programs that were recognized are the pinnacle of what Downtown Orlando has evolved into over the years,” said David Wheeler, Board Chairman of the Downtown Arts District. “The winners’ dedication to Downtown Orlando has undoubtedly made our city a better place to work, live and visit.”
The Downtown Arts District participated and nominated the following categories: Dresses: Objects of Art, (Downtown Experience); TrIP “Commute show”, (Special Events/Entertainment); International Twitter Art Exhibit, (Downtown Experience); Creative City Project 2014, (Special Events/Entertainment); and Third Thursday Orlando, (Downtown Experience).
