Shanon Larimer was tapped as Executive Director of the Downtown Arts District in 2008 to further advance the arts and economic development in the City of Orlando. By providing promotional and financial assistance to art and cultural venues, public art projects, and signature events, Larimer supports the organization's mission to “Grow the Arts in the heart of Orlando”.
Under Larimer's leadership, the organization has raised more than $200,000 for general operating support, championed a public art program that garnered $186,500 for local charities, increased the level of support from private and public sectors, attracted more than 10,000 attendees to the monthly Third Thursday Gallery Hop, created an annual campaign fund, and added three additional art galleries throughout the Downtown Arts District. In addition, Larimer launched
www.orlandoslice.com – an online network for the arts community visited by more than 35,000 people within a six-month period utilizing a social networking platform that has become an industry-first.
Larimer also oversees all operations, management, and funding for CityArts Factory, a 20,000 square-foot visual and performing arts facility visited by more than 45,000 people each year . In the first quarter of 2010, Larimer will manage the procurement of SAK Comedy Lab and will lead a complete exterior renovation of the facility built in 1916 to include a new brand image and signature marquee.
Formerly Executive Director of Enzian Theater and the Florida Film Festival, Larimer brings more than 10 years experience in Central Florida’s business community and has a broad background in the launch of new business endeavors and the revitalization of existing brands. Prior to joining Enzian, he served as Senior Manager of Public Relations for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment’s Florida theme park division, as Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Orange County Regional History Center, and also as Director of Public Relations and Special Events for Bloomingdale's.
In June of 2008, the Orlando Business Journal recognized Larimer as one of Central Florida’s most successful and influential leaders under age 40. His executive leadership and marketing strategies have been recognized nationally, earning two American Business Awards. Larimer is an honors graduate of Kent State University's school of Journalism and Mass Communication, having earned a B.S. in Public Relations and Marketing. He began his career in Orlando in the marketing division of Disney Cruise Line.
His passions include international travel and world cuisine, adventure sports, ancestry research, vintage photography, movies, and spending time his Shiba Inu (Meko), family and friends.
