What brings you to THE SLICE?
I am an artist and Illustrator and I would like to join the greater arts community in Orlando. I also would love to find avenues to sell my paintings and prints.

Hello Debbie,

Thank you for your interest in CityArts Factory.  I am pasting your email to David Wheeler below with answers in bold.  Please let me know if you have additional questions.  My work email is

From Debbie Hughes Eri… to David Wheeler Sent on Sunday

Dear David,

I don't mean to impose but was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me. I am very interested in Marketing my work in the Orlando area and do not know how to go about doing this. For the past year, I have concentrated on new works to show and sell, since my background has been in illustration work for books and magazines. Most of this is interesting stuff, much related to Science Fiction and Fantasy, however, I am unsure anyone who is not interested in that field would love it. My new works are mainstream, even my own personal works over the years have been that, so I have a fairly big inventory. I have also had many shows over the years: NY, washington DC, Atlanta, Knoxville and Nashville. Debbie you can exhibit 2 ways at CityArts Factory, 1) rent gallery space and do a solo exhibit for one month.  Space size and price vary, so you would need to stop in to visit the gallery and i can show you.  The other way is to participate in our submission shows.  These are themed exhibits were artists can participate for $10 per piece.  CityArts keeps 25% commission on all sales.  You can find out about these shows by joining the call to artist group on the slice.

I am hesitant to exhibit at any business that could not keep an eye on the paintings and who won't insure their safety. I had two bad experiences in the past, one resteraunt I had several paintings in burnt down, and one gallery stole my works and placed them in a warehouse. Fortunately on the gallery I had police intervene and they arrested the gallery owner and got my work back to me. CityArts Factory has an gallery manager or associate on premisis during all open hours.  We everything in our power to maintain the safety of your art work.  That said, we do not have your work insured and are not responsible for theft.  The up side is we ahve not had any incidents of theft.

Still, I don't want to let this affect me for showing my work, I am just very precautious. Anyways, I am interested in the CityWalk venue if you know who I should contact (this would be inside galleries), and the exhibits downtown around the lake on the weekends. I am not sure what this venue is called, we have been down there several times and artists have booths with tentlike covers, tables, etc. I believe there I could sell my prints more then paintings though. Please join the call to artist group and you will see both CityArts Factory calls and others from the community.

Any help you could give me, would be much appreciated.
