Young Artists Group Basic Details:

The goal for the Young Artists Group (YAG) is to attract exceptional artistic talent, mentor, educate and help bring their remarkable work to audiences throughout the Downtown Arts District and beyond.

The age range for this group is between the ages of 15 and 24 years. Adults in the visual and performing arts interested in becoming a mentor and/or instructor are welcome to join this group. The Group will meet regularly online via the Slice, at CityArts Factory and occasionally at performance venues and galleries in Downtown Orlando.

Monthly Mentor Workshops:

The first Saturday of every month (exception of June and July due to summer break for students), the CityArts Young Artists Group will meet from 1-3 PM for a professional development workshop lead by one of our mentor artists. Concepts and ideas to be discussed include professionalism and intentionality as an artist, developing your artist's statement, how to create a body of work for exhibits, curating an exhibit, finding your voice/style as an artist, as well as many other topics. Mentor artists will also introduce the YAG members to their own personal style and to the mediums used in their artwork. YAG Third Thursday exhibits be reflect that which the student artist take from their exposure to the mentor's artwork, whether it be style, subject or medium. Art supplies are available during the workshop generously provided by SAM FLAX, the largest local art retailer in Orlando. An application must be completed to participate in this YAG Group activity. Monthly Third Thursday Exhibits:

Each month where there has been a mentor workshop held, the YAG members will display their work for that month reflecting the style, subjects and/or mediums of the mentor artist for the month. YAG members will rotate taking the responsibility for curating the YAG exhibit each Third Thursday. Adhering to deadlines and gallery guidelines will be a priority in YAG members' artistic development. Gallery themes, such as Halloween, will be incorporated into the YAG exhibits themes, as well. CLICK HERE to download the application document.

My name is Shauna Jackson.  I am a new member as well as a new artist.  I am just finding out about all the exciting places to go check out local art.  I can't wait to be able to participate, hopefully shortly. I am also a mother of 4 so it is hard to get that extra time as well.  All of my painting is inspired by my kids and the world around them.  The negativity and ignorance that feeds most people is also a strong inspiration.  I want my kids to understand the world and not be sheltered by hatred and differences.

I'm happy to say that I've attended my first 3rd Thursday yesterday and it was a great experience. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing what some of the local artist had to offer and look forward to seeing what comes in the future.

I'd love to know how to get some of my work showcased.
